If you’re looking to brighten your complexion, even out skin tone and texture, and erase damage from sun exposure, the IPL Photofacial helps you get real results without undergoing harsh treatments or dealing with long downtimes. Learn more about how the IPL Photofacial works, what it treats, and how to find out if you’re a good candidate for this procedure.
How does it work?
This treatment uses an Intense Pulsed Light that sends multiple wavelengths of light into the skin, targeting the cells underneath that are responsible for producing pigment. This light is then turned into heat energy under the skin that destroys the cells producing melanin. Eventually, dark spots — like those associated with sun damage — are brought to the surface where they flake off. This reveals the younger, brighter-looking skin underneath and gives you a more radiant complexion.
What does it treat?
The IPL Photofacial can treat a myriad of skin issues, ranging from a dull, dry texture to spider veins. Other common issues clients look to this treatment for include:
- Hyperpigmentation
- Broken blood vessels
- Sun damage
- Freckles
- Rosacea
- Overall redness
- Red spots
- Sunspots
- Pigment imperfections
This treatment is commonly used on the face but can also be used to treat other areas, including the chest and neck, arms, hands, shoulders, and even legs.
Results and downtime
Because the IPL Photofacial uses light instead of an actual laser, it’s gentler on the skin and suitable for most skin types except for those that are high on the Fitzpatrick scale or have melasma. Results improve over time and with additional treatments, peaking at around 3 months post-procedure. While results are considered long-lasting, additional sun exposure can cause damage, and treatments are recommended once a year because of this.
There’s no real downtime associated with this treatment, and you can resume your regular activities immediately afterward. The skin may appear red or slightly puffy for a bit, but makeup can be used to cover this. Using sunscreen and limiting sun exposure for the first week is recommended.
The IPL Photofacial lets you tackle some of the most common skin complaints all in one treatment. Call Aponi Aesthetics today to find out if your skin type is compatible with this procedure and to book your appointment today!
