If you’re unhappy with your jaw line, you may think that invasive surgical procedures are the only option, and until recent years, you may have been right. But today, Radiesse offers patients a non-surgical treatment that can help contour and define the jaw for a more lifted, youthful appearance with little downtime and quicker results. Learn more about what Radiesse is, how it works and what it can do for you.
What is it?
Radiesse is a dermal filler that is comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a soft gel. When this substance is injected into to the skin around the jaw it adds volume and can help correct the appearance of any asymmetry of the jaw line. It also stimulates natural collagen production to provide a firmer, more youthful appearance. Over the next three to six months post-treatment, patients see increased dermal depth, higher collagen production and more skin elasticity thank to the resorption of gel containing the CaHA.
How does it work?
Radiesse works by using calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) to define and add volume to the jaw area. CaHA is a synthetic material, but it is identical to the substance that teeth and bones are made out of, which makes it a great choice as a filler to sharpen the jaw region. The product is usually administered with a cannula that lets the doctor keep the product on top of fascia and help provide optimal results. The doctor will inject the filler in several smaller passes so that the jaw line can be straightened, sharpened and then contoured to deliver optimal aesthetic results. The results from Radiesse treatment usually last for about a year, but some patients may not need another treatment for up to 18 months.
When you go for your initial consultation, your doctor will talk to you about your concerns and what your desired results are and then perform a physical exam of your facial features to determine how Radiesse can be used to help achieve those results. Each Radiesse treatment is tailored to the specific anatomy and needs of each patient.
What are the benefits?
One of the biggest benefits of using Radiesse to contour the jaw line is that it’s a non-invasive procedure. It can be done on an out-patient basis and only takes about 10 minutes or less to complete depending on your anatomy and desired results. It also has no downtime, meaning you can get right back to your regular activities, and it provides faster results than many other jaw treatments such as Kybella.
It can also be used in combination with other facial treatments and procedures to address other issues such as jowls, a sagging neckline or a chin enhancement. In addition to contouring the jaw, it is also used to help balance your profile for a more symmetrical look and help achieve the appearance of a more elongated neck.
