What are threads?
We use Polydioxanone (PDO), Polylactic (PLLA) and Polucaprolactone (PCL) threads to smooth and lift skin on the face, neck and chest. This product is essentially an absorbable surgical suture that is placed into the subdermal layer of the skin to initiate collagen production. The result is increased firmness and elasticity in the skin treated and lasts up to 2 years.
Are threads painful?
The treatment itself is nearly pain-free. Patients do report feeling slight discomfort for a few days following the treatment, but typically doesn’t impact daily routines. The procedure is done in our office by one of our cosmetic injectors and can be done fairly quickly.
When will I notice results?
You may notice a slight tightening effect immediately, however the collagen production isn’t truly noticed until 8 weeks. Increased smoothing and tightening is noticed for the next few months as well.
How long do the results last?
Threads can last anywhere from 2 to 3 years depending on the area and type of thread used. PDO threads have a 4 to 6 month absorption time and last about 18-24 months. PCL treads have a 24 month absorption rate and last about 2 to 4 years. PLLA have an 8 month absorption rate and about an 18-24 month aesthetic duration.
Side effects
Bruising is the most common side effect and some tenderness in the injection site.
