Achieve a more youthful appearance

Safe and effective overall facial rejuvenation

The power of light treats a variety of skin conditions, including pigmentation, redness, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. Aponi Aesthetics has the Spectrum IPL system that delivers precise and customized results for each patient. IPL treatments are recommended in a series of 3 and maintenance treatments throughout the year to prolong results.

Pre-treatment protocol

Once a patient receives a comprehensive consultation with one of our skincare professionals and IPL is recommended, patients are responsible for complying with our pre-treatment recommendations. These include:

  • No sun exposure or tanning beds for at least two weeks prior to treatment
  • No use of Retin A or other exfoliating acids
  • No self-tanner
  • No use of antibiotics that cause photosensitivity

What can I expect at the time of treatment?

The system is calibrated based on the appropriate settings for each patient, and the light energy is applied to the skin in a slow, rhythmic manner. Skin will feel like a mild sunburn post-op that can last up to 1-2 hours. Slight swelling or tenderness is rare but possible. For areas of pigmentation, the pigmented areas will appear darker before they appear lighter.

What areas of the body can be treated?

  • Full face (or specific areas of the face)
  • Chest
  • Hands

Are there any side effects?

In rare cases, prolonged redness may occur, resulting in possible hyperpigmentation (brown/red discoloration) or hypopigmentation (skin lightening), which typically resolves within months.

Post-treatment protocol

Avoid hot showers or saunas for 24 hours. Also, avoid topical acids, scrubs, or loofah sponges until the treated area has returned to its pre-treatment condition, about one week. Sun exposure or tanning beds should be avoided for about two weeks post-op, as the area treated will be more photosensitive. Sunscreen should be applied every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

IPL is commonly used to improve pigmentation, sun damage, redness, broken capillaries, and uneven skin tone. Many patients also notice overall skin brightening and a more youthful appearance after treatment.

IPL is not a traditional laser. It uses broad-spectrum light to target multiple skin concerns at once, while lasers use a single wavelength. This makes IPL a popular option for overall skin rejuvenation rather than targeting just one issue.

Most patients benefit from a series of about three IPL treatments for best results. Aponi Aesthetics in Worcester, MA, may also recommend maintenance treatments throughout the year to help maintain results.

Some improvement can be seen within a few weeks, but pigmentation and redness often continue to improve over time. Dark spots may temporarily darken before fading as the skin renews itself.

IPL is safe for many skin types when properly selected and performed. During your consultation at Aponi Aesthetics in Worcester, MA, your provider will evaluate your skin tone, concerns, and history to determine if IPL is the right option for you.
