So, why are patients doubling down on aesthetic treatments during COVID-19? Let’s explore the reasons. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported a 64% increase in their virtual consultations since the start of Covid-19. Also, this is not just in the United States. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) says doctors were reporting up to a 70% increase in requests for virtual consultations during this period.
Injectables such as Botox and derma fillers were the most requested treatment, followed by more invasive procedures, such as breast augmentation and liposuction.
It has been widely known that many people have been laid off or have been financially impacted negatively due to COVID-19. However, many people also have more expendable money because they are not spending it on luxuries they usually would be, such as vacations, events, and eating out. This scenario allows that expendable money to be allocated elsewhere.
Finally, some researchers believe the increase of Zoom meetings, also known as “Zoom Boom,” is driving interest in non-invasive facial procedures. Botox, fillers, and skin resurfacing treatments correct wrinkles and fine lines caused by the facial expressions that people notice on video calls. There’s also been an increase in demand for ‘neck rejuvenation’ and jawline contouring, as people spend more time looking into their computer’s camera and focusing on imperfections.
